Liquid cooling becomes popular
On October 18, Contemporary Amperex Technology company announced that it had reached an agreement with American utility and Primergy Solar LLC (Primergy) which is distributed photovoltaic+energy storage development operator, to supply batteries exclusively for Gemini photovoltaic+energy storage project.
Gemini has deployed 690 MWac/966 MWdc solar panels and 1.416GWh energy storage system. After the project is completed, it will become one of the largest photovoltaic energy storage projects in the United States.
Sungrow power signed a 220.16MWh energy storage order with Global Power Generation (GPG), a subsidiary of multinational energy enterprise Naturgy, to help GPG build the largest optical storage DC coupling project in Australia - the Cunderdin Project.
In September, Narada Power signed a 380 million yuan energy storage project with Pinggao Group International Engineering Co., Ltd. and Pinggao Group Energy Storage Technology Co., Ltd., which will promote the transformation of the local energy structure of the project. The above series of news revealed that in the global carbon neutral background of the outbreak cycle, the energy storage heat management industry is expected to usher in high growth.
At present, air cooling and liquid cooling are relatively mature technical routes for energy storage heat management. As the heating capacity of energy storage projects continues to increase, the cooling efficiency of air cooling cannot meet the heat dissipation requirements of some projects.
As a heat carrier, compared with air cooling, liquid cooling is inherently characterized by high heat carrying capacity and high heat transfer efficiency. It is more effective for preventing battery thermal runaway in the situations where the energy density of battery pack is getting higher and higher, the charging and discharging speed is getting faster and faster, and the ambient temperature changes greatly
CICC estimates that the global energy storage liquid cooling market is expected to reach 14.4 billion yuan in 2025, with a compound growth rate of 98% from 2021-2025.
Liquid cooling system:
The liquid cooling system mainly includes battery liquid cooling plate, water distribution pipeline and liquid supply system (compressor, condenser, evaporator, expansion valve, drying filter, etc.). The condenser, compressor and other equipment are forced to cool down by the coolant.
After the low-temperature coolant flows through the battery system to exchange heat with the battery cell, it flows back to the heat exchanger to exchange heat with the low-temperature refrigerant, so as to bring the heat generated by the battery out of the battery system. A cold plate is arranged in the battery room to allow the liquid to indirectly cool the battery.
Cold plate requires many specifications, needs customization, excellent maintainability, and high space utilization; As an important part of the liquid cooling system, the geometric shape and structure design of the liquid cooling plate have an important impact on the liquid cooling performance.
