Folded Fin Heatsink Overview
Manufacturing and Materials
Folded fin heatsinks are made by folding thin metal sheets-typically aluminum or copper-into a corrugated or folding pattern. This process provides a high surface area with low material usage. The folded fins are then attached to a base plate through soldering, brazing, or thermal adhesive bonding.
Common materials:
Aluminum – lightweight, cost-effective, and thermally efficient.
Copper – superior thermal conductivity, ideal for high-power devices.

The Benefits of Combined heat sink
Due to their lightweight nature and efficient thermal performance, folded fin heatsinks are often soldered to aluminum base plates using solder paste.
The aluminum base plate provides structural strength and excellent heat conduction from the heat source, while the folded fins greatly expand the surface area in contact with air, achieving a synergistic cooling effect - "1 + 1 > 2."
